I was wondering about the best time to plant 1-year asparagus crowns in southern Montgomery County. I've ordered Jersey Supreme, and the supplier said that shipping would commence on May 18 for my area. I responded that this seemed rather late. The supplier told me that they would be happy to change the shipping date for me. My understanding is that around early April would make more sense for this region, so that the crowns are planted by mid-April. Is my understanding correct?

You are correct. The best time for planting asparagus in central Maryland is March 20th through April 15th.
