Wisdom of planting Crown Vetch around a pond

Asked March 5, 2015, 4:12 PM EST

A number of nursery catalogs list Crown Vetch plants as desirable for erosion control. Some Internet sites describe Crown Vetch as an evasive species that is difficult to control.

Question:

Is there experience with planting Crown Vetch around dirt ponds in Central Texas to control erosion due to runoff into a pond?

Thanks

Crown vetch will do an excellent job (if given ample opportunity to establish itself) of stabilizing the soil around tanks/ponds. It is super wildlife food too! Yes, there are many options to stabilize the soil and reduce or prevent erosion. Keep in mind all perennials need time to establish.
