When to graft apples; bud stage?

Asked February 27, 2015, 2:09 PM EST

With this unusually early Spring-like weather, I have two apple trees with broken buds at the ends and another in early bud break and another, still dormant. I know that grafting is generally done in later March. With the buds broken on the two trees, is it time to graft? When, specifically, what stage is too late to graft?

Double edged sword. The grafting needs to be done before the leaf buds break, but the sap also needs the be flowing. Just do the best you can.do the grafting asap.
