Asked February 21, 2015, 2:55 PM EST

A tree contractor told me that I should fill these holes with cement,, The holes have been present for many many years but I can see the need to fill them. Question.. what is the suitable material for filling the holes.... Or, is it not necessary?? Thank youy, Jim Sweenie

It is not recommended that cavities in trees be filled with any type of material. If water can pool in the cavity it is recommended that drainage be provided to keep the cavity dry.
