should I prune my lemon tree

Asked February 14, 2015, 7:22 PM EST

Hi. I have a lemon tree that looks more like a 5 ft. bush. For the past 2 years it has produced about 20 lemons each year. First, can I or should I prune it or cut it? Second, the leaves are looking somewhat unhealthy right now, not sure what is going on.

You can lightly prune your lemon tree if needed. Most lemons need minimal pruning.

Remove any dead wood, or water sprouts that may be coming from the base of the tree. Removing a few internal branches will help to open the tree canopy to more light and air movement which will also reduce fungal diseases.

Here are some additional resources.
