I recently installed solar panels. I was told that for them to be effective I need to trim some branches. Both trees are mature chesnut oaks that are at least 30 years old. In one tree I would need to remove a very large branch and trim part of another branch. I am concerned if this has the potential to kill the tree. Should I remove branches in stages?

At this point you should contact several certified arborists to come out to your property for an onsite evaluation of the trees and the best way to proceed. See the attached link http://www.treesaregood.org/
