Pruning Blueberries

Asked February 1, 2015, 11:44 AM EST

My blueberries are so tall about 5' 7 or 8. when I really prune them, I do not get much fruit. Do you have plants at the Aurora facility that I can observe to learn to prune the berries. I always take out canes to leave 5 or 6 remaining.

Correct blueberry pruning depends on cultivar, plant age, crop load, etc. If you simply just leave 5-6 canes every year and noticed low fruit production, you may have not pruned the plants correctly, and/or fertilized your plants properly. There are many other things to consider to maintain a proudctive bush with pruning and nutrition.
You are welcome to the NWREC and we will show you how to prune correctly. Just drop me an email.
