pruning ficus tree

Asked January 29, 2015, 10:54 AM EST

Can I prune a ficus tree and when is the best time to do it. I keep it inside in the winter and outside as soon as it warms up, even though I read they do not like their locations changed. Mine is very big, about 5 1/2 feet tall in its pot.

Ficus can be pruned. They are commonly used for bonsai. The best time to prune would be in the spring before the new growth starts. http://extension.umd.edu/sites/default/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG84_Pruning%20ornam... vw
