When is the right time to trim my fruit trees and grapes?

Asked January 28, 2015, 12:15 PM EST

This winter has been weird and I want to make sure I trim my trees and grapes at the right time. We have been very warm after only a few weeks, so far, of cold weather. Can I go ahead and trim my peaches, pears, apples, etc. and grapes now?

Yes, now is the best time of year to prune your fruit trees and vines (even with the warm weather).

If you want more information on pruning here are OSU Extension publications that describe fruit tree pruning methods and grape production (including a section on pruning). If you're interested in a hands-on demonstration come to a fruit tree pruning workshop.
