I have a small herd of beef cattle 8 month females 1 steer. I am wondering if whole corn is as digestible as cracked corn for winter? thank you

The season doesn't really matter in terms of digestibility. Most university research suggests that cracked corn is 5 to 10% more digestible than whole corn. Some research also indicates that rate of gain is not significantly different between whole and cracked corn, but that feed efficiency on cracked corn may be a little better. If whole corn is fed, then the animal does need to chew it more, but young animals do chew more than older animals. Bottom line, corn can be fed whole with satisfactory results, but digestibility may be increased slightly by cracking it.
