grafting fruit tree

Asked January 23, 2015, 5:41 PM EST

My neighbors have an old fashioned apple tree that bears a very tasty fruit. I'd like to graft a scion from it on to an ornamental crab apple tree on my property. They have given their consent. Can you help?

Sounds like a fun project! Interestingly, most crabapple varieties are bud grafted onto apple rootstocks. I'm providing a link to University of Minnesota Extension that has a very comprehensive "how-to" graft.

Good luck!
