Lake that never freezes

Asked January 15, 2015, 1:46 PM EST

I live on Desperado Drive (off Big Hollow Road.) There are many lakes in the area, but one of them (not sure of its name) never seems to freeze over in winter. Are you familiar with this lake and why does it never seem to freeze?

Albany County Wyoming water

I am somewhat familiar with the area and Big Hollow Road but not with this particular lake. If you can give me a little better indication of where the lake is, i.e.. what section, I can investigate further. Email Pearl@uwyo.edu.
In general lake water depth and salinity would be the only factors that would limit freezing over. A lake in the Hollow could be saline. Another more remote possibility is that there is a warm spring in the lake.
