Do you offer advice or help for heating a house - making a house more heating efficient - issues such as frozen pipes? Have only lived in the house for a little over a year. Last year the propane gas bills were criminal. This is our first time using propane.

Last year was an unusual year for LP gas pricing. Your description of the bills may be more right than you think. Several states ran a criminal investigations on price gouging on the LP gas prices of 2013-2014 winter.

The quickest return on you investment dollar is to weatherize your home. The process of sealing cracks and stopping drafts will do wonders for your heating costs. Some electrical suppliers will help you by doing an energy audit. Some of the audits will do a payback analysis to show which improvements will provide the quickest return on investment.

Replacing the heating equipment is usually not recommended unless the equipment is very old and may have the potential to quit working. Some of that old equipment may have a low efficiency rating, but cost of new heating equipment will have a very slow payback. Check and see if your utility company has any programs that might help, energy audits or replacement credits..
