What Plant Is This

Asked October 22, 2014, 2:15 PM EDT

What is this plant in this photo? It came up by itself, has alternate, sort of crinkly, slighty thick leaves, woody stems and was suggested to be a sumac. It is about 22-24 inches high at the moment. It has no flowers as of yet. If it causes a rash we need to get rid of it! Please help!

It looks to be an Evergreen Sumac, Rhus virens.

These plants are in the poison ivy/sumac family, Anacardiaceae.

Some species cause skin rashes.
