Help identifying a pea.

Asked October 18, 2014, 10:55 PM EDT

I have grown a pea the past two years from seeds brought back from southern Louisiana. My wife's grandfather used to grow these and they are delicious.

The pea is about 1/4 inch long. It is a medium tan color overall. The elongated eye is white in the center surrounded by black.

I have included a picture.

I'm sorry, I don't know. It would have been good to have a picture of the pods. Do the pods turn purple when time to harvest? Could be a Purple Hull Blackeyed Pea. Who knows what variety. Obviously an heirloom so enjoy and always keep a fresh seed source. if pea eye is pink then a pinkeyed pea. Yours looks like a blackeyed pea. So it is one of the heirloom cow peas. I've shelled a many a bushel. I grew up in Louisiana.
