When should I plant strawberries? Everyone says to plant them now, in the fall.

Collin County Texas

Yes, that is correct. Planting strawberry in the fall helps the plants get established through the winter, allows them to be more productive in the spring. Harvest is around March.

Recommended varieties are Allstar, Chandler, Seascape, Douglas, Sequoia

Strawberries will benefit from a raised bed created with compost tilled into the soil and from the use of a row cover, or hoop house during extreme cold weather and ice storms. Please let us know if you need additional information about the culture of strawberries.
