Dying ivy

Asked September 24, 2014, 2:43 PM EDT

My English ivy is dying in large patches. It appears to be a disease or fungus with sparse leaves except at the end of the stem. Large patches of stems with almost no leaves. It is an open area southern exposure with no excess water. It started with voles which I got rid of and then I thought it was the hail storm but a new patch died in a few days with leaves completely brown. I don't know what to use on it. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

By any chance do you have a picture? That is helpful for the expert to see.

Because the ivy is dying so quickly today we took samples to the Master Gardeners hoping for a quick response. Thanks
