This weed sprung up in a large planter at the hospital, near crape myrtle. It is about 4 feet tall with broad soft green leaves, and a trunk that looks to be about1 inch in diameter. Can you ID it? I am assuming we should dig it up, but it is such an odd presentation that we were watching it grow. It started about 2 months ago. thanks

The tree in the photo looks like Paulownia tomentosa, Princess tree, an invasive plant. It should be removed. See the publication from the Plant Conservation Alliance for more information http://www.nps.gov/plants/alien/fact/pato1.htm
