Support for 'Adapting to Climate Change'

Asked September 17, 2014, 8:19 AM EDT

Hello,
Does the Cooperative Extension have a focus area on 'Adapting to Climate Change'? I am a property owner in Virginia, and my wife and I are exploring what we can do to adapt to the current and anticipated changing conditions. We are motivated to find meaningful, even facts-based, approaches to adapting, and are looking for resources. As I have explored the Virginia Cooperative Extension sites i have found, it has not been obvious yet if this focus area has been identified. So I wanted to ask to help me in my search.

Whatever you could share would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Chris

Chris, you will not yet find VCE publications that specifically address climate change. However, our research faculty are engaged in studies of climate change and how it will impact agriculture production and our environment. It is part of the college's Strategic Plan (http://www.cals.vt.edu/about/strategic-plan/index.html ) and more recently college researchers received funding to study impacts of climate change on the Chesapeake Bay ( http://www.vtnews.vt.edu/articles/2014/07/072214-cals-nsfwater.html ) If you want to know more about specific land management practices that should take into consideration changes in our climate, I suggest you start by contacting and speaking with one of your Extension Agents. Adria Bordas is the ANR agent in Fairfax. The office phone is (703) 324-5369.
