Can you suggest shrubs or perennials that tolerate dog urine?

Asked August 26, 2014, 10:21 PM EDT

Our association is installing sign posts. I just know dogs will want to pee on the post and on my lawn where the post is located. Are there perennials or low shrubs that I could plant next to the post that would tolerate the urine? Thank you, Janet

Hennepin County Minnesota

Great question and very smart of you to be proactive.
There are plants that tolerate dog urine. It will take a little effort to adapt the information to MN and find plants you like but these web sites give the characteristics you should look for and suggest some plants that are hardy here.
