I recently put down new sod. For the last month, racoons (at least I think they are racoons) have been tearing up the sod, apparently looking for grubs. Is there anything I can do to stop them from coming onto my property? Is there a scent I can spray that will deter them?

Several types of wildlife such as skunks, raccoons, fox, etc. may be tearing up the sod looking for soil insects we cannot say for sure what you are dealing with. There are no easy answers. If the area is not too large, try laying hardware cloth or chicken wire over the area to deter them. Also pinwheels are mentioned on some sites as a deterrent. Repellents are sold in garden centers; however, they usually are not that effective as they wear away in the rain, need to be applied, and the animals get used to them.
Remove birds seed or pet food so it does not attract the animals.
As a last resort you may need to reseed.
