I am a Howard County Master Gardener working on a pretty extensive grant project for a condo in Columbia. We have a native plant list that includes 20 Leucothoe axillaris but Amaanda Rockler said we should check about the leaf spot problem for this plant. I have grown this for the last 20 years and as the plants have become established I no longer see the problem. Your help is appreciated! Pat Hooker

Leucothoe axillaris can be affected by a leaf spot disease. Some cultivars have more resistance than others. In general leaf spots are minor. However, if these plants will be located in a prominent location, you may want to consider alternatives.
