what would make a hibicus plant leaves turn yellow?

We do not have enough information to answer your question. You did not mention the type of hibiscus you have and whether or not they are planted in the ground or in a container. There are perennial, annual, and tropical hibiscus.
There may be several reasons for yellowing leaves. Could be too much or too little water, feeding by sucking insects, etc. You can submit digital photos of the whole plant and affected areas.
