Is there a way to treat a squash bug infestation?

Asked August 18, 2014, 5:53 PM EDT

I have had over the last few years a battle with squash bugs taking over my zucchini and pumpkins. Is there any way to treat the problem? I am picking them off, but they hide and I know I miss many of them.

Squash bugs can be very difficult to manage. Good cultural practices are usually the best approach combined with hand picking and perhaps some soap- or oil-based sprays. This fact sheet from from the University of California IPM website provides excellent information on squash bug management in the home garden: Squash Bugs Management Guidelines.

Good luck and good gardening.
