Apple Tree dying

Asked August 15, 2014, 7:45 PM EDT

I have a very old Apple tree that has a few dying branches like the photo. Can they be trimmed off now or do I need to wait until winter?

It is normal for apple trees to have branches die and dead can be pruned anytime. Healthy wood should be pruned in late winter or early spring. No treatment of the cuts are needed.
