freezing aloe

Asked August 11, 2014, 1:17 PM EDT

I have an excess of aloe leaves. I use them in my smoothies for their nutritional value and healing properties. Will freezing the leaves alter the nutritional values at all?

Hello Gardener, Thank you for contacting Bonnie Plants. Everything I read says you can freeze the aloe without loosing the nutritional properties but using the thawed product is a little slimy. Most people use it from frozen into a smoothie. I found 2 references in England that says it can be frozen for up to a year but both are personal blogs.
