Citrus attacked

Asked July 29, 2014, 12:46 PM EDT

I noticed some damage from some sort of insect on my little potted lemon tree. They are burrowing into the young fruit and excreting sticky substance. I noticed a small green worm on the fruit itself. How can I treat this without using toxic poisons?

The description doesn't match up with any citrus pests our specialists are familiar with -- they suggest taking a sample of the damaged fruit to your local Extension office for an agent to inspect. http://pinellas.ifas.ufl.edu/home_landscape/
