Sweet yellow cherry tree

Asked July 28, 2014, 10:57 PM EDT

We have a sweet yellow cherry tree that is 20 years old. This year it had a bumper crop. We are in Fort Collins. We are thinking of having it trimmed or cut down, Do you think it will die in a few years? Thank you.

It's hard to say how long the tree will live without knowing it's overall condition. Sweet cherries tend to have a life span of 20-30 + years so, you may get several more good years from yours. It's a fine idea to have a certified arborist come take a look at it and prune if necessary. They will also be able to help you assess the health of the tree. Here is a link from the City of Ft. Collins webpage of certified tree care companies: http://www.fcgov.com/forestry/licensed-arborist.pdf

Good luck!
