How do I remove a glued-down carpet?

Asked July 24, 2014, 6:01 PM EDT

We had water in our basement from the last rain. Our carpet in the basement includes a pad that is glued to the floor. We dried the carpet as fast as we could and are hoping there is no mildew or mold. Now we want to remove the carpet. What is the best way to pull up the carpet without leaving parts of the pad stuck to the floor?

Use scrapers to work up the carpet and glue at the same time. A scraper that has a handle on it like a broom or rake handle should give you enough leverage to work up most of the glue. You may want to contact your local carpet store for additional hints.
