Why are my burning bushes losing their leaves?

Asked July 24, 2014, 2:33 PM EDT

I have several burning bushes that are dropping leaves now. Also, the top parts of the bushes have reddish brown leaves. The same thing happened last year--all the bushes lost their leaves by August. I did see small white bugs and sprayed the bushes immediately with an insecticide. What is causing the leaf drop?

Premature leaf drop is usually a sign of stress. Most of the time it is related to drought stress for burning bush - so that is the likely reason for the leaf drop. If you suspect other reasons, then contact your local Extension agent.
