We have a 3 year old sweet cherry tree. This spring it only got leaves on the end of one branch, then it got a ton of water sprouts, and now the leaves on the one branch are dying. The rest of the tree, apart from the water sprouts, looks dead (no leaves, buds that never opened). What do we do?

Considering the huge number of zone 4 plants Minnesota lost this past winter it is surprising even one branch survived. Sweet cherries are at best a zone 5 tree. Check http://www.garden.org/foodguide/browse/fruit/cherry/1615 for more information.
