Planting Plants in the Summer?

Asked July 7, 2014, 2:16 PM EDT

I'm wondering what plants could be planted in an outdoor but pretty shady area in medium-sized pots? I'm thinking from a bit of research: queen's wreath, yellow orchid vine, some sort of agave, succulents. Looking to make macrame pot hangers and leave them under my semi-transparent awning. What plants could I either plant from seeds or transplants? Are there some hardy bamboo species I could plants?? Thanks!

Hi,

Queen's wreath and yellow orchid vine do best in full sun. Agaves are good candidates for at least partial shade or indirect sun. Also aloes, yellow bulbine, and candelilla will grow well in partial shade. There are a variety of bamboo species that grow well here. You might want to visit the Bamboo Ranch to see a wide selection in Tucson. http://www.bambooranch.net/
