BLOAT

Asked July 3, 2014, 12:30 AM EDT

I have a show steer thats about 525lbs. It is strictly on show feed. we found it bloated on sunday. we walked the calf, tubed him with baking soda and water, tubed him with thera bloat, put mineral oil and water down him, and kept him strictly on hay. He finally looked better on tues and we started introducing show feed back 1/2 scoop twice a day (he was eating 1 1/2 scoop twice a day). He is now bloating again. No gas was released when we tubed the calf. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do?? This is a very expensive cow and my daughters 4-h calf.

It could be that your feed is to fine, pelleted feeds are much finer than a coarse mixture of grains. You may need to find another source to feed the calf. I have attached a few factsheets that I hope will help.
