What is happening to all my grapes? Most are turning brown and dropping off long before they are ripe (mid-Aug.)? Can this be prevented?

Anne Arundel County Maryland fruit grape black rot

This looks like black rot, an extremely common problem in grapes in Maryland. In wet years it is especially bad. Good air circulation and sanitation are vital. Prune properly and rake up all fallen affected plant material. If you are inclined to spray, fungicides such as sulphur and "Bordeaux mix should be used starting at the young shoot growth stage and continued at about two week intervals until the grapes start to turn color. Follow the directions on whichever product you select. vw
