Interior brick wall insulation

Asked June 21, 2014, 1:49 PM EDT

The walk-in interior area of my A-roof attic has a brick outside and cinder-block inside A-wall. What is the best way to insulate this wall?

Insulating masonry walls is not much different than insulating basement walls. If the cinder blocks have open cores, pour type insulation can be placed in those cores. That will be a fairly low R value, but some insulation beats none. Adding insulation beyond that level will require a layer of insulation on the inside surface of the masonry wall.

Montana State has a good and simple explanation in one of their publications. INSULATING SIDE WALLS OF EXISTING HOMES

Suggested values for insulation are listed in the Missouri publication, Insulating and Weatherizing Your Home.
