Plum tree problems

I've got a 3 year old plum tree in kansas and the leaves are a gold tint and curling up. The trunk of the tree is surrounded by this gold colored, round balls, gelatiness stinky stuff..the tree bark is missing in that area...have i lost my plum tree?

That may be Cytospora canker and associated gummosis. See

As go the leaves, so goes the tree. If they turn brown and die, so does the tree. Follow the recommendations in the pub referenced above.
