Do NOT wash the gasoline-soaked item with any other laundry items. all items will come out smelling like gasoline.
Gasoline is oil-based so you'll need a good oil remover to get rid of the smell and the remaining oil on your clothes. And orange-scented oil remover works great. so does baby oil. Add either of those cleaners to your washer with ONLY the gasoline-soaked item. Fill the washer (or a tub) with hot water and let soak for awhile---30 minutes should do the trick. After soaking, add your laundry detergent and wash on the hottest water possible. Hang to dry; preferably outside. Sunshine helps to remove odors. Do not put into dryer until ALL gasoline oil and scent are gone.
