I live in Perry Hall and have been gardening here for the last three years. I just realized I have not seen one single bee yet. Is this possibly due to hive collapse or are they just late this year. We have clover in our yard so it's common to see lots of bee in the summer usually, but I have never documented when they start showing up.

Baltimore County Maryland bees beneficial insects colony collapse

Colony collapse was not worse this winter. People may be using insecticides that kill bees (this is VERY common) such as Sevin. Even fungicides can harm bees if sprayed on fruit trees, for instance, when they are in bloom. Finally, bees need many lots of blooms to visit and we all need to grow lots of plants that bees can use.
