rust on ash trees

Asked May 25, 2014, 1:19 PM EDT

Our 80 year old ash tree seems to have developed rust on it's leaves. We have never seen this before that we know of (we have lived here for close to 30 years). We are wondering what to do. about this. The tree is dropping lots of leaves

Hi:
I have had a number of reports about ash rust this year, and also just received a notice from our ornamental plant pathologist on campus about it. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. If the tree was small enough to be treated with a fungicide, it would have had to have been done when the leaves were first emerging. If you email me at tma13@psu.edu I will send you a document with more information.
