Hello, and thanks for using the Ask an Expert System,

Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa L.) seems to be a very popular plant. I have found a lot of information on cultivating the plants, but nothing on controlling it. Since you don’t say how much you have or how vigorously it is growing I can only make some general suggestions.

I would start with simply digging it up with a spade or spading fork. Try to get as many roots as you can. A broadleaf weed killer, or a general purpose vegetation killer may be necessary to eliminate these plants.

If you want to try chemical control, I recommend that you contact your local Penn State Extension office for specific recommendations for herbicides in your area.
