I have morel mushrooms growing in my yard where I took down a dead elm tree two years ago. Is there any way to keep the mushrooms coming back?

Morel fruiting is notoriously difficult to predict. The mushrooms sometimes appear in numbers from a few to many at a given location for several years, but their presence can also be a one-time event. We don't know of a dependable way to improve or extend production in the wild.

Spawn kits are available for growing morels in compost, though fruiting may take more than a year and is not very reliable.
