Wheaton master gardeners advised us to contact you about our 4 year old redbud that has peculiar symptoms including narrowing, deformation, and knots on the trunk (see attached pictures). Otherwise, it seems healthy, with flowers and leaves. We fear canker, in which case the tree may need to be removed so the disease does not spread to our other trees and shrubs. We would appreciate your opinion about what to do. Should we cut it down, save it, or leave it alone? PS - We could only attach one photo. We have others, if needed.

Your redbud tree is suffering from botryosphaeria canker disease. There is no treatment required. The tree may continue to live for several years, but it will always have the strange appearance. Removal may be your best option.
