I just received a lenten rose plant and would like some information about where to plant it in my garden and its care. Is is a shade or sun plant and how long will it bloom. What about watering this plant, too?

Baltimore County Maryland flowers helleborus

There are several species of Helleborus, Lenten rose. This perennial grows best in partial to full shade in high organic, moist well draining, alkaline soil. It will tolerate some drier conditions in the summer. Keep well watered during the first season. Mulch lightly to conserve soil moisture and keep away from base of plants. Bloom time varies from late winter to early spring for several weeks to a month or more. Plants are slow to take hold but are long lived. Foliage is evergreen but can get battered by late winter. Prune off dead leaves. Plants eventually can reseed heavily.
