Are there any problems associated with planting red raspberries and black raspberries in the same general location within a garden (for example within 10 feet of each other? Also in the article about raspberries on your extension website the two varieties of black raspberries listed (Blackhawk and Bristol) show a "poor" hardiness rating. Since the article was posted in 2008 I am wondering if any other varieties are now available that might be better in the south Twin Cities area. If so are those varieties generally available at garden stores/nurseries?

The latest publication I was able to find also (2013) also listed them as poor. As of this date there have been no other varieties tested. There are numerous gardeners growing them and most give them some Winter protection or plant them in a sheltered area. You should have no problems planting them within ten feet but the reds will sucker outside of their bed.
