string or blanket moss in a stock tank-pond

Asked May 2, 2014, 3:21 PM EDT

Our stock tank in McKinney, Texas is infested with string or blanket moss. What can I do to get rid of it. Pulling is not an option. Would spraying with Round up or Cutrine-plus work? We have catfish and Brim + other wildlife that comes to the tank. Thanks, Barbara Docekal (May 2, 2014)

Barbara,

The Cutrine-Plus should work as it is labeled for aquatic use and it works good on submerged aquatic weeds. i would suggest that you treat the moss a little at a time as killing a lot of aquatic vegetation at one time could create an oxygen depletion. A very good Extension website to go to to look at different aquatic weeds and their control is http://aquaplant.tamu.edu.
