Robins pecking at window

Asked April 22, 2014, 2:46 PM EDT

Our business is located near 15th & Grant Streets in Bettendorf. Most of the buildings and trees around us have been removed for the future I-74 bridge project. There are a couple robins that continually fly around our door and picture window and frequently peck at the door. There is a reflective finish on the windows and seems like they are flying at their own image. Any suggestions on how to stop this without harming the birds?

Hi,

You've hit the nail on the head. The birds do see their reflection and they are displaying territorial behavior. Probably the best product that I know of to help in this situation is "Bird Tape" that can be purchased through American Bird Conservancy, or may be available locally at a story such as a Wild Birds, Unlimited. The link for the bird tape is http://www.abcbirdtape.org/. Unfortunately, if you don't do anything, the birds may continue this behavior for weeks. Luckily, the tape seems to do a good job of reducing the behavior.

Hope this helps!
