Should potatoes and onions be stored separately away from each other. I have heard that storing them near each other can cause spoilage sooner in each vegetable.

potatoes and onions should be stored separately as much as reasonable to minimize odor transfer. In most household settings this is not a big deal. Also, both are fairly good producers of ethylene and you may want to store them without closed packaging to lengthen their useful time.
