There are lots of projects which are researching and developing algae as a feedstock for biodiesel, jet fuel and other liquid fuels, but at his point, the supply is fairly limited and the cost is prohibitive for diesel fuel. Algae is being evaluated in closed in systems (photo bioreactors) or in ponds with raceways and a dozen or so other schemes, as algae has the potential to produce more gallons of vegetable oil suitable for conversion to motor fuel per acre than any other feedstock, but lots of questions remaining on efficient production, harvest and extraction systems and best uses for press cake.

At this point, I am unaware of commercial quantities of algae oil on the market.
