Herbicides for vegetable gardens

Asked March 10, 2014, 8:22 AM EDT

I use Roundup a couple of times a year before I plant vegetables. Normally I apply it a couple of weeks before I till the garden and plant my vegetables. Does this have any effect on my garden?

It should not affect anything in your garden. RoundUp is a systemic contact herbicide that is inactivated pretty quickly after it reaches the soil. If you were transplanting on the same day as an application, you might see some damage, but in general, it takes 7-10 days for roundup to kill what you sprayed. I would suggest you remove or till in the dead plants, prior to planting your garden.
