Cold season plants such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage can be planted early in February although may need some protection in severe cold. Warm season plants such as tomatoes, pepper and squash should be established past the average frost free date which is approximately April 15 in Davidson County. Most vegetable plants can be grown in containers however keep in mind the larger the plant, the larger your container should be. Larger pots( 5 + gallons) should be used for tomatoes (1 plant) and pepper (2 plants). Leafy crops like lettuce or spinach require less room (about 1 or 2 gallons) for every 2 plants.
